Prayers for recovery from addiction
Recovery happens one day at a time, so these prayers do too. They ask for strength for the next twenty-four hours, for good people around the one who struggles, and for the family that loves them.

A Christian prayer
The hope: “That my son stays clean and keeps going to his meetings.”
First prayer
Heavenly Father, we bring this parent and their beloved son to you today. You know the weight carried in a mother or father's heart, and you know every step of this fight. We ask you to keep this son clean. Guard his mind when old cravings flare, and give him the strength to choose life each hour. Guide his feet to his meetings. Put honest people around his chair who listen well and speak plain truth. When he wants to turn back, remind him that he is not alone. Grant this parent steady rest tonight, free from terror every time the phone rings. Give them patience and clear eyes for the days ahead. Hold this family safe under your mercy. In the name of Jesus, we pray.
Amen
A Spiritual prayer
The hope: “That I make it to ninety days sober.”
First prayer
Spirit of Life, source of all healing and renewal, we hold Chris in the light today. Chris is counting the days, reaching for ninety days sober. Grant clear vision and a steady heart for the hours ahead. When the old pull returns, give Chris the resolve to pause, to breathe, and to remember why this clean path matters. Surround this seeker with honest companions who offer truth and care. Let every morning bring a fresh measure of hope, and let every evening bring rest without regret. Give Chris the patience to take this life one single choice at a time, building solid ground beneath each step. May strength rise from within to meet each hard craving until the milestone is reached and passed.
So be it
A Catholic prayer
The hope: “That my husband accepts help for his drinking before it is too late.”
First prayer
Lord Jesus, look with mercy upon this marriage and hear this wife's heavy cry. Her husband is bound by his drinking, and the days grow short. We ask Saint Jude, patron of desperate cases, and Saint Monica, who wept through long years for her own family, to join their prayers to ours. Pierce his heart with the truth of his condition. Break the pride and fear that keep him from reaching out his hand. Give him the clarity to see his need, and the courage to accept help before more is lost. For his wife, grant protection and clear sight. Give her firm ground to stand on when sorrow threatens to pull her under. Guard their home from despair and lead them both toward life.
Amen
A Muslim prayer
The hope: “That my cousin stays away from drugs and comes back to his prayers.”
First prayer
Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim. All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad.
O Allah, Al-Hadi, the Guide of the straying hearts, and Al-Wali, the Protecting Friend, I turn to You for my cousin. Guard him from drugs and break the pull they have on his body and mind. Place a barrier between him and whatever harms him, and surround him with people who remind him of good. Soften his heart to stand before You again on the prayer mat. Let him find relief in sajdah instead of running to what ruins him. Rabbi yassir wa la tu'assir, my Lord, make it easy and do not make it difficult. Bring him back to You in repentance and grant him a clean start.
May Allah send peace and blessings upon our master Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
Ameen
